MONTGOMERY COUNTY, GA (WALB) - He spent years serving and protecting others. But Sunday night an intense search is underway for a former South Georgia Fire Chief who's now missing on the waters.

67-year-old Jimmy Porter fell off of his jet ski around 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon not far from his home, in the Oconee River between Montgomery and Jeff Davis Counties.

Now dive and rescue teams from Coffee, Jeff Davis, and Montgomery counties are searching the river and using SONAR technology hoping to find him.

So far the search has been unsuccessful.

Porter is the retired chief of the City of Douglas Fire Department.
