VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police are not releasing the name of a man shot by police on three days ago, but they believe he's a drug dealer.

They have charged him with possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to distribute. He's also charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, three counts of obstructing an officer, and several gun charges.

Witnesses say the man was riding a bicycle on Troup Street Monday afternoon, firing a revolver into the air. Police say he ran from them.  At one point, the suspect pointed a gun at the officers as they approached.

Officer Vernotis Williams shot him twice. Police will only tell us that the suspect may have been involved in other crimes in the city, and his name is part of an active investigation.
