ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Totally Teen Zone will turn into a winter playground this weekend. The Albany Parks and Recreation department is getting ready for 200 teenagers to flood the gym at Bill Miller Community Center tomorrow night.
The teen zone will be similar to one that was held in May. For the Winter Bash, participants are asked to wear winter sports outfits to take part in Wii snowboarding and skiing, as well as other music and dance activities.
Teen Zone is a way to keep teens out of the streets and get them into a safe, fun activity on a Friday night. Parks and Recreation Director Suzanne Smith said, "It's a very safe environment and we do have security provided. We have partnered with APD. We do have pardons and paroles on board. Kids aren't allowed in with anything they're not supposed to have and we do have them check their cell phones at the door, so it's very secure, very safe."
Totally Teen Zone is open to the first 200 13 to 17 years old who arrive. It will be held at the Bill Miller Community Center on Vick Street from 7 until 10PM. For more information, contact Recreation and Parks at 430-5222.
