Albany --The Department of Natural Resources is warning Dove hunters to take precautions against West Nile Virus when the season opens Saturday in the State's Southern Zone.

The D-N-R is urging hunters to wear rubber gloves when cleaning or handling the doves that they shoot. There is a chance that the blood of doves could have the West Nile Virus, and it could infect hunters.

The Dove season in Georgia's southern zone opens Saturday at noon. The season will run through October 27th. D-N-R officials urge hunters to wear bug repellant and use rubber gloves when handling the doves to guard against West Nile.
