Weather a little damper on the Bikes or Bust kickoff

LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -  The wet weather has put a bit of a damper on the first day of an annual Christmas gift toy drive, but organizers say it won't be a bust.

The Toys for Tots Bikes or Bust annual fund raiser got started today at the Wal Mart shopping center in Lee County.

Marines from the Albany base and Rock 103 radio station will be collecting bikes for kids for the next three days.

A disc jockey was going to spend the three days in that motor home suspended high in the air by a crane, but because of the weather they are skipping that. But they are still asking you to make it a Merry Christmas for kids by donating a bike.

Cumulus Promotions Director Jenny Nicholson said "The bikes that are donated here are spread throughout Southwest Georgia. So they are kept in our community here for the children that are in need, and a little less fortunate."

The Marines from the base will put the new bikes together. They will be at the Lee County Wal Mart from 7 in the morning until 7 at night Thursday and Friday, for the annual Bikes or Bust toy drive.
