CAIRO, GA (WALB) - No one likes to lose a football game.
Especially when that game is for a state championship.
The Cairo High Syrupmakers vowed to get back to the state championship game this year after their narrow loss in last year's title game with Carver.Cairo High has done that with their semifinal win last Friday over the same Carver Tigers.
It sets up a state championship showdown Saturday at the Georgia Dome against Flowery Branch.
Such big expectations can sometimes hurt a team but for Cairo the Syrupmakers have stayed focused all season on one goal.
Cairo head coach Tom Fallaw said. "I think you have to give our kids credit. Y you have to give our coaches credit. To find ways to motivate these young men every week. Having the kids listen to them and get better each week. Which I think we have."
Cairo and Flowery Branch play Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Georgia Dome.
The GHSA state championship games start Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Dome and run through Saturday night.
