ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Just before 1:00 PM Sunday afternoon several frantic calls from customers inside the Piggly Wiggly on Meredyth Drive began pouring in to 9-1-1. When police arrived they found the two men dead near a checkout counter.

Police have identified both victims to be 18-year-old Scott Hutzell and 27-year-old Tommy Lamar, Jr. And investigators believe Lamar, Jr. was the shooter.

It was the frantic scene at the Piggly Wiggly on Meredyth Drive after police were called to a shooting at 12:56 PM Sunday afternoon. "As officers were on their way to respond to the scene they got a call about a second shooting," said Albany Police Chief, James Younger.

Officers found two people dead near one of the checkout counters. "We found two subjects both apparently suffering from gunshot wounds. And both of them were males," said Younger.

18-year-old Scott Hutzell and 27-year-old Tommy Lamar, Jr. were identified as the two men. "Officers cleared the building. There were no other suspects in the building. We don't believe there are any other suspects in this case. And there are no other injuries." said Younger.

Police are still not sure of exactly what happened, but believe it was a murders-suicide. "We are still in the process of investigating. We are still interviewing witnesses, but their appears to be only one weapon involved," said Younger.

And right now finding out the motive is investigators number one priority. The store was closed for the rest of the day out of respect for the families. It will re-open at seven Monday morning.
