ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Despite the lack of jobs, more students than ever at Albany State University are staying in class and earning a degree.

Albany State ranks third in graduation rates among the 35 schools in Georgia's University System, behind only the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. ASU President Dr. Everett Freeman is pleased with the numbers.

"We've increased that over nine points in a relatively short period of time so I couldn't be happier with the continued success of our faculty staff and our students achieving the goal of getting an education at Albany State," said Freeman.

Freeman said ASU placed an emphasis on encouraging students to complete the graduation requirements and obtain a degree.
