ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Tifton Police Officer is honored by his peers, as their Officer of the Year.

Officer Dorminey McCrae of the Tifton Police Department was named the Officer of the Year by the Southwest Georgia Sheriff's and Police

Intelligence Unit. McCrae was honored for shooting an armed robber who had taken a teenage girl hostage during the April 7th stickup of the Piggly Wiggly. His Chief said McCrae's actions no doubt saved the hostage's life.

Retired Dougherty County Police Chief Bill Kicklighter received a Meritorious Service award from the Unit as well.
