THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - A hostage standoff ended peacefully in Thomasville this morning after police say a man held his wife captive in their home.

Friends stopped by this home on North Dawson Street hours after the incident to check on Janet Griffin.

Police say around 6:30 this morning her husband, 62-year old Robert Griffin, locked her in their bedroom by nailing the door shut.

She called police who stayed on the phone with her throughout the ordeal. The SWAT team was called out to help.

"The officers came, secured the area, made contact with the SWAT team, got them out here. About an hour and a half into the suspect walked out the front door and tried to get into his car and he was apprehended," said Capt. Mark Scott with the Thomasville Police Department.

Robert Griffin was arrested and charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault. Right now he's hospitalized for a mental evaluation. No one was hurt.  Feedback
