ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Brooks County is in the state semifinals for the first time in decade.

The Trojans trip to the Georgia Dome in 1998 was Maurice Freeman's last game as head coach at Brooks County.

Freeman left Brooks County for another coaching job but is back in Quitman and has the Trojans two wins from the first state title since 1994.

Ironically that was Freeman's first season in his first stint as head coach.

It is no secret the turnaround the Trojans have had in the return of Maurice Freeman.

The coach says it was just a matter of the players buying into his way of doing things.

Freeman "My methods are a little bit different. We have gained a lot of trust in each other. we have sown alot for each other and we have worked hard. the bottom line is you have got to block and tackle, run and catch. I think we do that fairly well. if you do, you can be successful."

Brooks County hosts Calhoun in the AA semifinals Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quitman

The winner plays Buford-Fitzgerald winner next Friday in the state championship.
