ALBANY, GA (WALB) - After seven armed robberies, crime is crippling one East Albany restaurant.  The owner says his employees are frightened.

Three Squares diner was robbed twice in one week.

Tonight the frustrated owner says he'll have to run the restaurant himself because workers don't want to put their lives in danger.

It was just one week ago we showed this surveillace video from the Three Square Diners on East Oakridge, when it was robbed at gunpoint by a masked gunman. And the owners of that restaurant believe the same gunman struck again early this morning at the same restaurant.

Owner Bob Newsome said "When are we going to do something to control the crime?"

Bob Newsome owns six restaurants in Southwest Georgia, and the East Albany Three Squares Diner is the only one that has been robbed in 20 years. This is the 7th time this restaurant has been robbed since 2005.

Newsome said "All my employees are scared. They all left. Two times at gunpoint in a week. Nobody wants to work in that, and I don't blame them."

Newsome said they just recently stopped having security guards overnight at this restaurant, but tonight the guards will be back, because he says Police don't patrol the 24 hour businesses enough.

Newsome said " I can't imagine why it would be so hard to have somebody patrol that area on a pretty regular basis. I don't understand it."

Newsome said he is not going to let this gunman force him to close his restaurant.

Newsome said "We will be open. It might be myself, my partner, and my manager running it. Who knows. But we will be open."

Newsome admits he is frightened too. People too scared to work and do business in this East Albany neighborhood because of violent crime.

Bob Newsome believes the same gunman stuck up the Subway across the street two weeks ago.

This is the same block where that car was stolen with a baby inside Monday night.

If you have any information about that gunman, call CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
