ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Governor Sonny Perdue says a meeting with President-elect Barack Obama to talk about budget woes was a productive policy- based effort.

Perdue flew back from that meeting in Philadelphia to congratulate Senator Saxby Chambliss on his win. Tuesday night he said Georgia is one of a number of states facing a shortfall and will need to make deep budget cuts to make ends meet. He said he and other republican governors will work with Obama to try to fight rising unemployment numbers.

"The times that we have right now call for us to work together. He committed and we as republican governors committed to put our heads together and solve the problem in America that we face today, to restore America and its productivity, and its problems world wide," said Gov. Sonny Perdue.

Obama told Governors like Perdue he wants their advice in designing an economic recovery package to help their states.
