ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Darton College encouraged their students to become more energy conscious during their Sustainability Day.

Several recycling bins were placed on the courtyard, and students were given a canvas bag with an energy star light bulb as they entered the student center.

There, they signed a pledge committing to use energy star bulbs and appliances when ever possible.

"Making sure that they understand that they can do something. And with budget cuts and all that is going on today in the economy, saving energy is not only good for the environment, but is also a great way to save money," said Student Activities Director Eric O'Cain.

Clubs on campus were also challenged. The group that recycles the most materials will receive $500. Darton hopes to make Sustainability Day an annual event.
