ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Health officials say it is not too late for you to get a flu shot. They encourage everyone to get one because it's your best defense against the virus.

The shot does not have any live virus, so it will not give you the flu. Even if you get the flu, the vaccine can keep your symptoms from being severe.

"There are three strands that are in the flu shots. And last year they were off by two of the three strands. But we still had some cross reactivity though it wasn't the best last year," said Southwest Health District Director, Dr. Jacqueline Grant.

The shot goes into effect two weeks after you get it. According to the CDC, the flu hasn't hit Georgia yet. There are sporadic outbreaks in about half the country.
