Car theft ring broken

September 20, 2002

Albany-- Fifteen teenagers face charges for stealing more than 30 cars from East Albany dealerships.

South Georgia Auto Auction owner Danny Acord says the teen thieves have cost him more than $15,000 in damaged cars. He has also spent $6,000 on fences to stop them.

He says the teens have been caught before and aren't being punished. "We've caught almost everybody that has ever stolen a car from here, has been captured."

"The problem is they are being released. They're being turned back over because our judicial system wants to rehabilitate these kids. In July the kid was 15 years old-- and it was his 15th conviction."

Nine teens have been arrested. Seventeen-year-old Alan Plummer was picked up in Lee County, with one of the cars in his possession.

Seventeen-year-old Delletorious Stills was arrested with a stolen car Thursday night in Albany.

Police are looking for six others, who range in age from 13 to 15.
