ALBANY, GA- (WALB) South Georgia Wildcats general manager Darren McPhail is thankful this Thanksgiving to finally have a head coach.
The Wildcats announced Tuesday Rodney Blackshear is the new head coach.
Blackshear played football at Texas Tech and was a graduate assistant under head coach Mike Leach in 2003.
Blackshear became a head coach for the Lubbock Renegades when they joined the AF2 in 2007.
He took the team to the playoffs this past season and after the season Lubbock folded their operations.
Blackshear is aware of the success the Wildcats have had under former head coach Derek Stingley the last two years and is ready to build on that foundation.
Rodney Blackshear said. "Definitely, the last two years Stingley has a good job of building this team to where they were last year in winning the division. I am hoping to come in here and bring back some of those guys from last season and continue what they started last year."
Rodney Blackshear's first game with the Wildcats is March 21st at Florida.
Derek Stingley was last week named an assistant coach at Bossier-Shreveport.
