South Georgians head to Capitol Hill

September 17, 2002

Albany- About fifty American Cancer Society ambassadors and volunteers loaded up for an overnight bus trip to Washington D.C. for their Celebration on the Hill.

There they will speak to congressman about the need for more cancer research in South Georgia. The need for more research hits home for many of the volunteers.

"I lost my mother in December to ovarian cancer and we had been involved in the Relay for Life about four years prior to that, but after I lost my mother in December I just decided that it was time," admits volunteer Regina Giles.

The American Cancer Society estimates 555,000 people will die from cancer this year.
