ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Gang Task Force committee wants to make sure you're safe while you shop in Albany over the holidays.

They worry Albany gangs could become more active when students are out of school.

The task force plans to keep a watch over retail area parking lots, but they are also asking shoppers to protect themselves.

Albany City Commissioner Jon Howard said "Absolutely, especially when senior citizens are out. If they are out at the Mall or they are going to the banks, try to do it in pairs. Have somebody go with you."

Commissioner Jon Howard says Albany Police have selected 12 gang detectives and two supervisors to make up their new Gang Task Force which will start training in January.
