ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police warn that crooks are taking advantage of the cold weather to steal cars.

Two cars have been stolen while warming up in driveways.

Wednesday morning a car was stolen in the 400 block of Harding Street when the owner cranked it and left it running, and went back inside.

That car was recovered early this morning in the 800 block of Holloway Avenue. Then this morning another warming up car was stolen in the 11-hundred block of Benjamin.

Albany Police Officer Todd Noyes said "It's a crime of opportunity. Someone walking by sees the vehicle running. No one watching the vehicle, they are taking that opportunity to take what they want."

Police suspect the car thieves could be kids, but they are warning people to be more careful, and stay with your car if you decide to let it warm up on these cold mornings.
