ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It was a full house at the Albany Dougherty Economic Development Commission Wednesday with many business leaders interested in the state of south Georgia's economy.

Albany's largest employer Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital spoke about their 313 million dollars impact on the community and how their continued growth is creating additional jobs. Phoebe's expansion will not only mean additional jobs for the hospital, but it's also created construction jobs and when they bring new doctor's to the community in makes a big impact.

"For each physician there's roughly a million dollars in new commerce that's created in some cases it's a little bit less, in others it's a lot more depending upon the specialty involved," said Joel Wernick, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital CEO.

At least one company questioned Phoebe's impact on the community, Trey Bloodsworth Procter and Gamble plant manager talked after the presentation with Joel Wernick and told us the majority of money Phoebe generates comes as a direct result of the community.

Bloodworth said P&G along with other industries are doing all they can to keep company costs low. Today everyone agreed it's important to share information between companies during these tough economic times.
