ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The tough economy is taking its tolls on movie ticket sales. Carmike Cinemas reported a $203,000 loss between the July and September period.

That compares to a $1.9 million profit from a year ago. Those numbers also show that people are spending less in concessions. But the Carmike Wynsong theater in Albany says they have locally produced Fireproof to thank for their strong sales.

"Third quarter we had Fireproof which was a huge movie here because of Albany and Sherwood. It's been really well. We are looking good in the fourth quarter because we have Bolt coming out which is 3-D.

And we have three 3-D screens here. This theater at this location is doing very well," said District Manager, Brian Graham. Columbus based Carmike operates 250 theaters in 36 states around the country.
