SMITHVILLE, GA (WALB) - A water main break in Smithville has been repaired, but residents are still being asked to boil their water for another 24 hours.

The water main at Stanton and Church Streets ruptured Thursday morning.

By Thursday night, the line had been repaired, but because of recent rain a large hole remains at the intersection.

Smithville's two restaurants were instructed not to prepare food until the order is lifted.

Until the water sample taken Friday is analyzed, residents are still encouraged to boil their water before it is used for consumption, food preparation, or brushing your teeth.
