ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A warning for people in Lee County after a destructive weekend burglary.

Someone broke into a home in the RedBone area and trashed it. Several cars were broken into in the area as well. Sheriff's Investigators say break-ins increase this time of year. They say there are plenty of things homeowners can do to avoid becoming a victim.

They want people to lock their doors and cars. Investigators say you should never leave your garage door open and if you're going out of town for the holidays alert a neighbor and the Sheriff's office.

"Just let the neighbor's know and call the Sheriff's office so we can put a watch card on the house and that way when the deputy's patrolling the neighborhood they'll be able to put special attention on the house and they'll know the people are out of town," said Lt. Lewis Harris.

During the holiday's they say you should never leave presents in plain sight. They also suggest not leaving valuables on the tops of dressers but instead suggest placing them in a safe place.
