VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -    Along with VSU, 500 other schools across the country are trying set a new Guinness Book of World Record for a food drive.

VSU and other universities are teaming up with Sodexo Campus Services in an effort to collect over 396,000 pounds of food. Sodexo gave a free lunch to anyone who contributed five cans or more.

"To involve the university, to make us a family, it makes us a part of the community. It helps bring hunger out and get the university involved," said Sodexo's Amanda Peterson.

The local food bank says every 10 pounds of food feeds a family of four for a day.
