Blazers face tough road in title defense

November 12, 2008

Valdosta - The Valdosta State football ready to begin their defense of the Division II national championship.

If the Blazers are to make it back to back titles, they have their work cut out for them.

The Blazers open the playoffs at home Saturday against Carson-Newman.

Valdosta State had a bye week in the final week of the regular season which means they should be rested after playing thee games in nine days.

Head coach David Dean is concerned about injuries on the offensive line and the linebackers heading into Saturday's game with the Eagles.

Dean also concerned with the task his squad faces in getting back to Florence.

David Dean said "We are going to play Carson-Newman this Saturday. If we win that, we are going to have to go to North Alabama for a repeat game. If everything holds true to form, we may have a repeat game with Delta State."

Valdosta State and Carson-Newman meeting for the fifth time in the D-II playoffs.

Each team has won two meetings with the Blazers winning the last in the 2004 playoffs.

Game time is at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Valdosta.
