Alex Thornton rushed for 203 yards on 31 carries and scored one touchdown in Lee County's 29-20 win over Monroe High Thursday night at Albany's Hugh Mills Stadium.
The Tornadoes got on the scoreboard first after recovering a Lee County fumble at the Trojan 27-yard line.
The drive took just two plays with Terrance Ransom completing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Omar Ellis.
Lee County then came to life offensively with Nathan Bateman inserted at quarterback after the Monroe touchdown.
Bateman marched Lee County on 65-yard scoring drive with Thornton scoring the Trojans first touchdown of the season on a four yard run.
A bad snap on a punt attempt set Lee County up for their second touchdown. Luke Smith's 7-yard run gave the Trojans a 14-7 halftime lead.
Monroe tied up it up on just two plays on the opening drive of the third quarter.
After Terrance Ransom ran for 18 yards, Omar Ellis cruised 70 yards for a game tying touchdown.
Lee County though answered right back on a 27-yard touchdown run by Luke Smith and a two-yard blast by Nathan Bateman.
The Trojans tacked on a two-point conversion to give them a 15-point lead.
Monroe tried to rally with Omar Ellis scoring his third touchdown of the game but their two point conversion failed leaving the final score at 29-20.
Lee County (1-1) will play their home opener next Friday against Crisp County while Monroe will play Albany High one week from Saturday.
