Lee County- The Republican race turned pretty nasty, but Craig Mathis says he hopes the general election campaign in District 137 will stay clean and fair.

Mathis hosted a campaign kickoff cookout at the Lee County Governmental Building Thursday night. At the same time, demonstrators across the street held signs protesting the state flag change and blaming Democrats.

Mathis says he was not in public office when the flag was changed, and he had nothing to do with that issue. Mathis says a major focus of his campaign is to bring more jobs and revenue to South Georgia.

Craig Mathis and Ed Rynders face off on November 5th.
