ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Fire Department says grass fires become more of a problem this time of year as people burn leaves and the weather dries out.

Firefighters are not sure of the cause of this large grass fire this afternoon between several apartments on 18th Avenue at Cardinal Street.

About 1:00PM, firefighters were hustling to beat down the flames in the kudzu and grass as brisk winds fanned the fire.

That field is surrounded on three sides by apartments.  "I went and got my own water hose to save my own stuff. It's a scary feeling to see this fire in a blaze like this. Close to everybody's apartment," said Corey Davis.

Firefighters kept the fire confined to the field. No buildings were damaged.

A fence on one side burned as worried residents watched the flames.
