ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Police warn South Georgia stores to be on the lookout for others trying to pass the phony checks.

The phony checks are made to look like payroll checks from Albany Electric and Oxford Construction, with amounts between four and five hundred dollars.

The three were cashed at the Wash House on South Slappey, and Investigators say people are being recruited to cash them.

"We're sure there's more checks out there, and we want to just warn folks that people are distributing these counterfeit checks," says Capt. Jimmy Sexton of the Dougherty County Police Department.

Business owners are asked to call the Dougherty County Police at 229-430-6600 if they have any information on these counterfeit checks, or CRIME STOPPERS at 229-436-TIPS.
