Drought creates low water levels

September 12, 2002

Warwick- Lake Blackshear is at its lowest level because of the drought, and if it keeps going, it could hinder operations at the Georgia Power Dam.

Crisp County Power Commission manager, Gene Ford, says they are monitoring the level by calling a phone system or by plugging into a computer system. Ford says if South Georgia gets at least an inch of rain, the levels should increase. [

Ford says, "Over the last few days, the gauge has been below zero. The flows coming into the lake have been the lowest we've seen."

Ford also says they have been running generators to help increase the water level.
