Election workers preparing for November

September 12, 2002

Lee County--Election workers in Southwest Georgia are hoping to avoid Florida's election chaos.

In Lee County, people will get a chance to practice on new voting machines. 56 touch screen machines will be set up around the county, from football games, to banks, and grocery stores. That way, people can practice on them before election day.  Election's Supervisor Veronica Johnson says, "It's better to be proactive than reactive. We would just like everyone to feel comfortable and have a large turnout. We want to shine when the state total's come in."

Lee County's machines have been checked twice, four of the touch screens had to be replaced. there will be several more inspections before the November fifth elections.
