LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - We begin with breaking news from Leesburg where authorities right now are searching for a suspect who led police on a wild high speed chase and even crashed into a police car.
The chase ended when the Lexus crashed at Highway 32 and Double Oak Lane near Lee County High School. The driver took off on foot and is still on the run.
We're not sure why police tried to stop the driver, but the chase started on Groover Street, at Robert B. Lee Drive and Lover's Lane Road.
The car crashed into a Leesburg Police patrol car. The officer was not hurt. The driver later lost control and crashed just outside the city limits on Highway 32.
Officers say they found alcohol and marijuana in the car. Again, they are still looking for the driver right now.
