ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A tradition at Albany High School came early as students and faculty gathered Friday morning to observe Veteran's Day.

Members of the marching band were on hand as students gathered in front of the school for the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. Classes will not be held Tuesday when Veteran's Day is officially recognized, but organizers wanted students to understand the meaning of this day and the people it honors.

AHS social studies teacher and Marine Corps veteran Abraham Wesley said, "A lot of students hear of a lot of people who have actually have gone and served in the trenches and heard of a lot of things. But a lot of them have not come into contact with people and have not been able to talk to them and ask them questions about different experiences so it brings it home for them. It brings it to life."

Service men and women from the Air Force and Navy attended today's event and spoke to students about their careers in the armed forces.
