ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Hospital Authority announced that it is the final stages of a lease agreement with Sumter Regional Hospital.
The Albany Health System will have operational control once the new hospital is built.
"We're looking forward to getting involved with the design process. Currently I think the design anticpates roughly 80 beds. But it should be designed to be easily expanded so that in the future, you've already built expansion into it," says Phoebe Putney CEO Joel Wernick.
Phoebe Putney has committed $25 million toward construction which is slated to complete sometime in 2011. About $110 million from GEMA, FEMA, and insurance proceeds will also assist in the rebuilding.
