Mercer puts best foot forward for Knights

October 30, 2008

Albany - The kicking game can win or lose one to two games a season.

Deerfield-Windsor beat Westfield primarily due to the leg of kicker Matt Mercer.

Dr. James Mason presented  Matt with this week's Orthopaedic Associates Albany Area Player of the week award.

Matt accounted for all of the Knights points with two field goals including the game winner with four seconds left.

He also punted Westfield inside their ten yard line twice on a night where a muddy field made field position very important.

Matt Mercer said "It was a little nerve wracking. I got over it. Coach Lowe told me this is what memories are made for. So, I just kicked the ball."

Deerfield-Windsor hosts Brookwood Friday night where a win clinches the region title for the Knights.
