SEC honors two UGA football players

Birmingham, Al. - The 8th ranked Georgia football team needed a big play early in their showdown with LSU.

Linebacker Darryl Gamble from Bainbridge delivered two on Saturday.

 Darryl Gamble is this week's Southeastern Conference's defensive player of the week.

Gamble intercepted two LSU passes and returned both for touchdowns. T

hat tied Georgia and SEC record and tied an NCAA record for linebackers.

The former Bainbridge Bearcat also had a career high 13 tackles.

Running back Knowshon Moreno made it a UGA sweep for the SEC player awards. Moreno is offensive player of the week after rushing for 163 yards against the Tigers.

Georgia's big win now sets up the Bulldogs for Saturday's eastern division showdown against Florida in Jacksonville.

Darryl Gamble said "We are knocking on a lot of cylinders right now but I don't think we are complete right now. I just hope we keep improving."  

Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford has been named a semifinalist for the Davy O'Brien trophy that goes to the top quarterback in college football.

Georgia and Florida play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Florida.
