TERRELL COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Many families are spending the weekend helping their children pick out their favorite Halloween costumes. But it's also not a bad idea to go over some safety tips too.

This Friday will pose many dangers on our roads as children dressed in mostly dark colors venture out through the evening. Officers say children should have an adult with them when they go trick-or treating.

And they recommend families pair up to give adults extra arms and eyes.

"Especially this one, he likes to run all over the place. So it can be hard because they get excited. And they want to go in different areas, but you just make sure you've got your eye on them," said Jennifer Dozier.

"We go in a group every year, and there are several families that go. And we look both ways before we cross," said Christy Allen.

Officers also recommend that parents use face paint instead of masks so that children will be able to see clearly when they cross the streets that night.
