Commodity giveaway

September 5, 2002

Sylvester- People living below the poverty line get a little help in Worth County.  It was the Department of Agriculture's quarterly surplus commodity giveaway.

There were long lines at the Henry Woolard Community Center Thursday morning. With the economy still lagging, nearly one thousand Worth County families are eligible for aid.

"It's just more people are in need, because of jobs, we're giving out more and even more people," Lillie Polite, SWGA Community Action Council member said.

Thursday 34,000 pounds of peaches, pears, milk and mashed potatoes and other commodities were handed out.
