VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Police are investigating what appears to be a murder-attempted suicide in Adel.

Neighbors say 35 year-old James Hundley and his live in girlfriend, 40 year-old Ida Golson were nice people.

"They are really good people. My really good friends," says Sabrina Inman.

"The guy was a very nice guy. They called him Snook," adds Samuel Carithers.  "He went to work everyday. He didn't bother nobody."

So Carithers was shocked by what he saw when he was awakened early Thursday morning.

"Somebody was knocking on the door real hard, so I answered the door. It was a classmate of mine who lives across the street over there. He told me hurry, hurry! Call 911," Carithers says.

Investigators say Golson was shot in the chest, and Hundley was shot in the head.

"The six years that I've known them, they're real good friends. I didn't ever know he would snap like that. I don't know what happened but it had to really be something to get him upset like that, " Inman says.

Golson died at Adel Memorial. But Hundley survived. He was moved from ICU Friday morning and is in good condition at Archbold hospital in Thomasville.

Police believe the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute but don't have any other information at this time.  No charges have yet been filed.
