Lady Rams softball ready for Columbus

October 22, 2008

Sylvester - The high school softball season has been a fairy tale for the Worth County Rams and now the Lady Rams are hoping to end that fairy tale with a state championship.

The Lady  Rams faced elimination Saturday in the South sectionals but showed no signs of the pressure winning 4 games to advance to the AAA state finals in Columbus.

Worth County believes they are the first team from their region to make it to Columbus. The Lady Rams will take a young team to the elite eight.

Worth County starts four freshman and only one senior.

The Lady Rams haven't let their youth stand in the way.

Worth County catcher Haley Ellis said "Everyone expected us to do well but not this well because we would be young everybody thought we would crack under pressure. But just because we're young doesn't mean that we can't go in and dominate. "

Worth County opens the AAA finals Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against Eastside.

In AAAA, Lee County plays Northgate also at 3:30 p.m. and Lowndes plays Kennesaw Mountain in the AAAAA finals at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
