Water Gas and Light employee has to clean up

September 3, 2002

-Albany- An Albany Water, Gas and Light Employee is reprimanded for dumping asphalt on private property. The same crew was back at the wooded area at the corner of East Lincoln Avenue and Nona Drive Tuesday morning, cleaning up what they dumped Friday afternoon.

The crew had been capping a gas line, digging two small holes in the road. One of the people who lives on the street saw the crew take the asphalt they dug up, into the woods and dump it. That person called Water, Gas and Light  Tuesdaymorning to report it, and the crew was quickly sent to clean it up and properly dispose of material.

W.G.and L. Spokesperson Lori Farkas said "The only way we know what's going on is when a citizen calls us and says we have a problem. I'm real proud that out people responded within an hour and had that sight cleaned up."

Proper procedure was for the W,G and L crew to take the asphalt to their Front Street operations headquarters and dispose of it.
