Book campaign kick-off

September 3, 2002

A school program is motivating kids to open up more books and read.

Today, Mitchell County Primary School kicked off their book campaign. Teachers dressed up and acted out a New York Times bestseller, "The Kissing Hands".

This year's goal is 25 books or a million words per student. Second Grade Teacher, Michelle Coker, says, "I think that's the goal to get them motivated. It certainly has because my children are carrying their books to the lunchroom and in the hall you see them walking, looking down, eyes on books. So, it's really doing a great thing."

Coker says her kids are so motivated, she expects them to surpass their goal.
