An Albany prosthetist is coming to the rescue to help a Moultrie man who lost his arm to rare flesh eating bacteria.More >>
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Sumter Regional Hospital have agreed to join forces to re-build the Americus hospital that will be turned over to the Albany health system once complete.
The two signed a letter of Intent that's been approved by both hospital authorities. Under the agreement, Phoebe Putney will commit at least 25 million dollars toward construction of the new hospital. Sumter Regional Hospital was torn down after the damage from the March first tornado.
Once rebuilt Sumter Regional Hospital will become a new wholly owned non-profit subsidiary of Phoebe called Phoebe-Sumter Hospital. Sumter Regional Hospital employees will be retained by Phoebe as well as the core services the hospital now offers.
