Stingley ready to look for coaching job

October 16, 2008

Albany - Former South Georgia Wildcats head coach Derek Stingley is officially a free agent.

However, the Wildcats will not be the only team Stingley will be talking with about a head coaching job.

Derek Stingley was released from his contract Thursday as part of a severance package with the New Orleans Saints.

Three days after Saints owner Tom Benson folded his Arena Football team the New Orleans Voodoo of which Stingley became the defensive coordinator last month.

The Wildcats want Stingley back after leading the team to back to back playoff appearances and the AF2 south division title.

Stingley said the Wildcats are one of several AF2 teams who have already contacted him about their head coaching job.

Stingley says he loves Albany and would love to return for a third season but the decision on where he coaches next season is a business decision.

He also anticipates discussing his former job with Wildcats general manager Darren McPhail very soon.
