ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Algerian man with connections to Albany was arrested after an international manhunt.

The F-B-I says he faked his own death to collect $426,000 in life insurance.

56-year old Abdelhamid Sedrati was arrested this month at the Atlanta Airport flying into the country under an assumed name.

His last known address was this house in the 700 block of 8th Avenue in Albany.

Sedrati is charged with mail fraud.

A federal indictment says in October 1994 Sedrati traveled to Algieria where he faked his death.

His sister Yamina Sedrati claimed the death benefit from Allstate Life Insurance Company in 1996.

A federal grand jury indicted him almost eight years ago... But investigators just tracked him down.

His sister is charged as a co-conspirator and is still on the loose.
