Arson tipster rewarded

August 29, 2002

Tifton- A Tifton man gets a reward on the one year anniversary of a fire that destroyed an historic Tifton home. Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine presented the $3,500 check to Tifton leaders who will pass it on to the anonymous tipster. The witness gave investigators info about someone he saw near the 6th street house just before it burned.

"It's the hardest crime to prove simply because a lot of evidence is destroyed in fire,"  John Oxendine, Fire Safety Commissioner, said. "We rely on citizens to come forward and tell what they've seen."

Rewards of up to $10,000 are given for information leading to the arrest and conviction of arsonists.
