LOCUST GROVE, GA (WALB) -An escaped Albany probation violator was killed Tuesday morning when he was hit by a van on I-75 while running from Police Officers that pulled him over.

23 year old Arthur Lee Henderson escaped from the Albany probation office in handcuffs July 7th. Warrants for his arrest were issued for probation violation and escape.

Police say about 10:30 Tuesday morning Henry County Police pulled over a car being driven by Henderson on I-75.  The officer's check of his driver's information showed the warrant. When the officer told Henderson he was arresting him, Police say Henderson attempted to run across the Interstate to escape. He was struck by an oncoming van and killed. The driver from Cherokee County suffered minor injuries, but refused to be taken to a hospital.

The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed while GBI officials investigated, which is still ongoing.

Henderson had outstanding warrants out of Dougherty County for Theft, Criminal Trespass, Obstruction, Escape, and Possession of Stolen Property. He was also wanted in Albany for Criminal Damage to Property.
