Catch the Reading Wave

August 28, 2002

Albany - The South Georgia Waves rolled into an Albany Elementary school today. The baseball players encouraged some of their small fans to set big reading goals.

Students at Alice Coachman Elementary flooded Waves Mascot, Crash, with high-fives today. The school kicked off its reading program with help from Waves players. The America's Choice reading program encourages all students to read at least 25 books this school year, but Waves players and teachers say why stop there.

"When I was in elementary school, I didn't realize the importance of reading. Now, I want to help these kids understand how vital reading is. It will make them smart," said Ross Hawley, Waves Pitcher.

Players also encouraged students to join them at the ball field Thursday for Alice Cochman night at the Waves game.
