OMEGA, GA (WALB) - An Omega boy was killed when he was hit by a truck as he rode his bicycle.  There is now a memorial at the spot where 9-year old Jesus Lara was struck Saturday afternoon.

He was riding his bike on Brooks Drive in Omega. State troopers say he failed to stop as he turned onto Meders Drive and rode into the path of a Ford F-150 pick-up driven by 23-year-old Claudia Gomez.

Lara was transported to the Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta where he died Sunday morning. Troopers say Gomez will not be charged.

Some people in the community criticized the first police officer on the scene for not performing CPR on the boy. Police Chief Walt Young told us Tuesday that officer's CPR certification is not current and officers aren't required to perform the potentially lifesaving technique.
